((OOC: Please note that the opening of the first man-made shadow portal is opened to roleplaying for all members of the GDF, but not their machines/kaiju. IR and I have security detail covered. Also, please refrain from actually entering the actual Death God's Realm until TG can get the new NPCs together.))
A few days after Myston had finally awoken, the entirety of CEEHQ was filled with activity. Technicians and security personnel alike hustled about in preparation for the arrival of other members of the GDF for the opening of the world's first man-made shadow portal. While most of the visitors would be underground, watching from the relative safety of the underground complex, the real action was topside, where a large, ring-like structure, easily big enough to accommodate the average GDF mecha, was held upright by massive tethers and gravity leashes. The ring pulsed with energy periodically, but otherwise did not move.
Nearby, multiple Landstalkers covered the ring with their cannons while wings of aircraft flew overhead. Some distance further back, Darktide stood still, tall and dark against the brightness of the desert sun. Light reflected off the machine's armor, newly repaired after the battle against Blaradon several months ago. Ben waited eagerly at the controls, as General Williams observed the situation from the command center below.
"The power supply is hooked up, sir. We've alerted the local authorities of what we're about to do as well, and we're getting replies back on the encrypted channels from the other heads of the GDF. Right now we're awaiting the arrival of Imar officials. They're bringing backup with them."
"Good. Alert me once they arrive. I want to greet them personally."
"Yes, sir."
General Williams nodded as the soldier saluted and left before returning his gaze to the massive monitor before him. It was only a matter of time now...

A few minutes later, the massive form of one of Imar’s MTAs passes overhead, flanked by a dozen Harpies which look utterly tiny in comparison. The huge aircraft touches down on CEEHQ’s main runway while the Harpies break off and hover over to the ring, joining the encirclement of Landstalkers.
The huge door at the rear of the MTA slowly opens, and a precession of Adams and MADROCs file out. Once they’re all out and clear of the aircraft, Orion steps out onto the tarmac. As the Imar mechs all make their way to join the gathered CEE forces, a small group of people makes its way from the plane toward another small group that’s standing off to the side of the tarmac. Neil Maxwell, followed by the crew of the MTA, walks over to General Williams, the sunlight glinting off his black sunglasses.
“Good afternoon, General.” he says, extending his hand.

Mr. Maxwell, glad you could make it," Williams replies, shaking the other man's hand as he does. "And it looks like you got my message about back-up too."
"Kevin wouldn't miss the chance to bust some heads, so to speak. Has anyone else arrived?"
"Not at the moment, no. We've got a position set up in the main control room. Once everyone who can make it arrives, we'll initiate the power-up for the gate and get things underway."
"Fantastic."

Not a moment after the General finished speaking, the two turned their heads to the sky. A noise, almost like a low-pitched wind swirling through a tunnel, sounded out over the base. The noise became louder and louder, tickling the eardrums of the listeners, until finally quieting down as the aircraft creating it slowed down and emerged from some distant clouds. It was a small private jet that had been previously travelling at extremely high speeds. Upon landing, the jet was revealed to be labeled with a small "RNT" on the door. This was very different than the gigantic RNT plane that landed at Imar for the meeting a while ago, but Vladimir Ilchov had a liking for a large array of personal aircraft.
Inside, the Russian spoke to his guards.
"Vhy do you guys follow me around everyvhere? I am safe. You can stay here"
Other than the guards and the pilot, Vladimir was alone. With his growing anger and distrust with Dimitri, he left him in Moscow. The reason for this was because Vladimir was actually testing his nephew, to see if he would try anything behind his back. But aside from that, he was in a relatively good mood, ready to witness the first portal. He stepped out of the jet and took a short walk over to where the group was standing.
"Hello Mr. Maxvell. Good to see you," Vladimir said, shaking his hand.
"And General Villiams, I am glad to be here," he spoke, putting his hand forward, ready to shake.

Robert was still a bit unsteady on his feet, but not even something like a pissed off god would stop him from doing his sworn duty. While Cytosaur was still resting and being put through a few tests by the girls, their commander was checking in on the Shadow gate project. The trouble with this was that the man didn't get enough respect to have a decent vehicle take him to the base, instead he suffered a long ride in a jeep before finally rolling to a stop in front of the massive complex.
Being the pencil pusher he was he couldn't help but note that the guards near by were a little sloppy. They didn't even check him for his ID badge and weapon. In this time of extreme unrest and unease, Robert saw this as a weakness, even if he was a commander of a GDF and a well known one at that, this should not make him exempt.
"Slackers..." He muttered before jumping out of the jeep and making his way into the building, more or less ignoring anyone in his path as he continued onwards.

"Mr. Ilchov," General Williams replied, shaking the Russian's hand. "It's a pleasure to see you again. I'm looking forward to working with you again."
"Da, likewise."
"And Commander Macron," he called out, signaling to Robert, who was on his way. "So glad you could make it. I trust your Cytosaur is recovering well?"
"For the moment. Also, you've got some real slackers on guard detail at the front gate."
"You don't say? Well, I'll have to get right on that then. thank you for bringing it to my attention."
"Is this everyone," Neil asked, surveying the group.
"We're still waiting to see if Mr. Henron from Phantomb is going to show up. He may just opt for a remote viewing instead. In the meantime, I suggest we get below and prepare to open the gate."

"Yo Kevin, long time no see," Ben called out over the radio as the Orion approached his position. "How've ya been?"

“Oh, not bad. How about you?”
“Just glad Darktide’s finally up and running again. Feels good to be back in the cockpit.”
“I can imagine. Training Thunder’s been keeping me pretty busy, but after that shit in Atlanta a couple weeks ago I’ve been itching for some actual combat.”
Ben snickers a bit. “You almost sound like you hope something goes wrong.”
“Heh, maybe.”

After a few minutes have passed and no confirmation of a personal appearance from Basil Henron has been made, General Williams decides to begin the first live opening of the new Shadowgate. Warning klaxons blared as the ground crews began to move away from the ring as it began to spin in place, energy arcing across the inside of the ring. inside the control room, the members of the GDF watched as the gate was brought online.
"First coordinate set locked in. Now initiating second coordinate lock sequence."
"Gyros and gravity tethers are holding. Generator output at 36%. All other systems are nominal."
"Second coordinate set locked. Now initiating shadow energy pulse."
A pulse of dark purple energy raced around the outside of the ring gate, running counter to the motion of the gate's own spinning. A tiny vortex began to appear at the center of the ring and quickly expanded with a sound like tearing cloth as the rift between dimensions rapidly expanded.
"Energy fluctuations are withing expected tolerances. Now commencing second pulse. Initiating gate stabilization."
A second pulse of energy, this time a bright white one, began running in tandem with the shadow energy pulse. The two began to mingle with each other at the portal ceased wavering and began to stabilize. Within moments, a fully formed portal to the Death God's realm was sitting there, open to the world. The landscape on the other side was blasted and barren, no living thing seemed to move out there.
"Sir, we're ready to begin the probe operation."
"Good. Send it through."
"Yes, sir. Activating recon systems now."
On the ground outside, a large vehicle, powered by several insectile legs and covered in thick armor began to march towards the gate. It stopped for a moment at the edge of the ring, then stepped forward, crossing the threshold between one reality and the next. The ground crews watched as the probe drone continued forward, then disappeared over a hill. Inside the command center, the images were relayed back to all present.
"Dear God," Vladimir said, surveying the desolate landscape present to them.
"I can see why the freak on the other side fancies himself a god of death. This whole landscape is dead," Neal said in agreement.
As they continued to watch the live feed, another warning alarm sounded from a nearby console.
"General, we've got multiple unknowns on radar, closing rapidly with the drone."
Before anyone could react, a massive blurry form dashed in front of the drone and then the image was lost in a burst of static.
"We lost the drone, sir! Last reading showed over thirty contacts, several of which had high levels of shadow energy emanations. Ground control is also reporting multiple spikes in energy on the other side of the gate. They're headed this way!"
"Ben, Kevin, do you copy?"
"Read you loud and clear General. We're getting it on our sensors too."
"Engage and destroy all targets as soon as they exit the rift gate. We'll shut it down on our end."
"Roger."
"Time to rock and roll then," Kevin replied. General Williams could practically see the grins on the younger men's faces.

The two mechs and all of the supporting craft target the portal opening, waiting for their targets to emerge. When a Terrorfiend comes into view on the other side, all hell breaks loose. Missiles, bullets, and streams of plasma all fly into the portal, slamming into the creature’s hide and instantly destroying it.
From the smoke, several other creatures emerge and immediately rush through the portal before it can be closed, with about half of them taking to the sky while the other half rush out across the ground. One of the creatures, another Terrorfiend, has its wings shredded by artillery and falls to the ground.
“Ben! You take care of the fliers, I’ll handle the ones down here!”
No sooner do the words leave Kevin’s mouth than Darktide flies over Orion’s head. “Already on it!”
With the dark machine engaging the Tormentors and Terrorfiends, the white mech focuses on the Hellhounds and Shadow Hounds. The canine beasts have scattered and are attacking the ground forces. One of them, a Hellhound, charges straight toward Orion. As it leaps, mouth agape and ready to sink its fangs into its would-be prey, the mech coolly blows its head off with its Shotcannon. A moment later, the mech delivers a punishing heel kick to a Shadow Hound that attempts a similar head-on attack. Orion lets go of its Shotcannon with its right hand, still holding on and working the pump to chamber another shell with its left hand, and draws its Monomolecular sword. It steps over to the stunned Shadow Hound and buries the sword in the creature’s side, just behind the shoulder, before twisting the blade and then wrenching it out.
Meanwhile, another Shadow Hound charges toward a trio of Landstalkers, only to suddenly stop in its tracks and rear back, howling in pain as a MADROC’s Zeus’ Javelin embeds itself in the canine’s flank and begins pumping electricity into its body. Another electrified harpoon pierces its other side, followed by another, and another. With four of the scorpion-like mechs anchoring it from different directions, pumping it full of electricity and blasting its hide with their beam cannons, the Landstalkers join in and together the seven mechs bring down the Hound.
A Hellhound chases a pair of Adams, the agile mechs doing everything they can to keep out of its jaws. Suddenly a salvo of missiles erupts from a pair of cloaked Landstalkers several hundred meters ahead of them. The missiles explode against the beast’s head, making it cry out and skid to a stop, giving the two Adams the opportunity to spin around and unload on it themselves. A third Adam, this one equipped with a Hi-output beam sniper rifle, burns out the creature’s eye from a distance. Two more Adams and three more Landstalkers soon add their firepower to the assault. Finally, a pair of Harpies swoop down, all eight of their GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling guns blazing. The Hellhound quickly withers under the barrage before succumbing entirely.
Orion blows a hole in a Hellhound with its Shotcannon, then promptly does so again with another Shadow Hound. Kevin looks around for any more hounds, and sees none. The only Shadow creature left on the ground is the Terrorfiend that was grounded immediately after coming through the portal. Orion walks over to the crippled monster, storing its Shotcannon on its shoulder and drawing its Monomolecular sword once again. The creature, which is weakly crawling on its stomach and bleeding from its numerous wounds, senses the mech coming and forms its own fiery sword, only to have its arm cleanly sliced off by Orion’s own blade. The white machine raises its sword, pointing the tip downwards before plunging the blade into the Terrorfiend’s back, right between its shoulders. The creature cries out before falling limp and dissipating into wisps of darkness. Orion pulls its sword out of the ground and stores it again. Kevin looks around once again, this time for casualties. To his surprise, there are none. A couple of the smaller mechs are damaged, but all have survived.

As Kevin engages the ground troops, Ben moves to attack airborne targets. Several Mobius aircraft open fire on the pair of Terrorfiends attempting to flank Darktide, sending the monsters plummeting to the ground where they dissipate in a burst of shadow energy. Ben blasts right through the Terrorfiends and targets the Tormentor birds. Several precision strikes from his Plasma Cutter decapitate the bird demons, sending their bodies falling to the ground, only to have them dissipate as well upon impact. More missiles from nearby aircraft continue to strike Terrorfieds, and a scything laser beam from the lead Icarus element decapitates a Tormentor as easily as Ben's plasma blade.
Within moments, the entirety of the Death God's strike force is crippled or dead, as flanking units mop up the survivors, leaving nothing behind but wisps of shadow energy and the occasional monster part.

"Hang on, we've got one more contact approaching the gate. It's a big one, looks like a Shadow Roc."
"I've got it," Ben replied, readying his weapons for the approach of the monster bird. The Shadow burst from the gate seconds later, screeching and screaming at the top of its rotted lungs. Unfortunately, it flew right into a concentration of GDF firepower, as the Landstalkers began to offload with their missiles, the armor piercing warheads striking the central chest orb, splintering and cracking it with each shot. A few more rounds missed their marks and instead blew holes in the wings, which quickly began to reform.
"Special deliviery," Ben shouted as he plunged his Plasma Cutter into the monster's chest, barely missing the orb by centimeters as the beast jinked to one side. A second strike from the Harmonics Disruptor had greater effect, sending more cracks and splinters racing along the surface of the orb, which began pulsing with energy as it threatened to overload and destroy itself, which was unusual for a Shadow Roc. And then it hit him...
"Kevin! This thing's a bomb! It's gonna self-destruct and try to take us with it!"
"Shit!"
"Command, how close are you to shutting down the gate?"
"Almost there, Darktide. Give us ten seconds."
"We might not have that long!"
"Force it back into the rift," Kevin shouted, unshouldering the Orion's sniper rifle as he did and taking careful aim. The orb on the monster's chest continued to glow and pulse as he fired once, the bullet punching a hole in the Shaodw Roc and driving it backwards towards the gate. A volley of Hydra missiles and a triple burst from the Impact Cannon kept it moving backwards.
"Gate closure in 5...4...3...2...1...now!"
The Shadow Roc surged forward, attempting to pass through the gate one last time, when the portal suddenly collapsed on itself, severing the monster's head n the process. The air inside the ring gate seemed to pulse and ripple for a second as the monster exploded on the other side, but in the end, there was nothing but silence as the severed head of the beast dissolved into formless mist.
"Rift gate closure confirmed."
Ben breathed a sigh of relief as cheers went up from the pilots of the various aircraft and machines surrounding the gate. The battle was over. And not only that, but they had also succeeded in opening a portal to the Death God's realm itself. They were that much closer to bringing and end to the war.

Once the closure of the rift gate was finished and all damages assessed, General Williams took the opportunity to deal with what the GDF actually had planned for the shadow portal.
"GDF Central Command has already authorized plans for an attempt to set up a forward base on the other side of the Shadowgate. We here at CEE have already begun preparations for construction of that base and associated facilities once the area on the other side can be properly cleared out. We are prepared to provide schematics for additional Shadowgates to be constructed at other facilities to allow for quick access to the new base once construction is completed."

Robert was forced to duck out of the way of things as the mecha took care of a little surprise. Though this didn't take long with such small fry, as well read on these shadow beings as teh commander was, he didn't expect anything to stand up against some of the most powerful mechs in the army.
The man had his pistol drawn just in case, he didn't put it passed that blasted gate to spit out a few human sized demons and Robert was not one to ever be caught off guard.
He scanned the area before finally coming out of his hidden nook which was little more then a small alley made by the close walls of the base.
