This isn't going to be anything definite, as of the moment anyways, but I thought I'd like to get an idea of everyone's feelings on this.
For a while now, I've been toying with the concept of a new RPG that is quite a deviation from the usual Godzilla and kaiju based ones we are typically involved in. The basic premise ends up being something like two parts conquistadors in South America, one part Cthullu mythos, and one part Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider, all set in a fairly low magic fantasy setting.
The players would take on the roles of mercenary types contracted out by various members of the nobility on the other side of the ocean to hunt out treasures left behind by an ancient civilization, fight monsters, level up, etc. etc. I've got a fairly involved story in mind, one that can change to accommodate the actions of the players. The big difference here between this new idea and past RPGs i've run/helped run would be that I wouldn't be "playing" the game, but instead would take on the role of NPCs and work on developing different areas for people to explore.
It would be awhile before i get the whole thing fleshed out, so what I want to know is if anyone here would be interested in playing such a game or not. Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

I'm sure with the right amount of work put into it, this RPG idea could work very well
Unfortunately, its not my cup of tea, so to speak, so I probably won't join.

I agree with Azure. This is a good concept, and I like it. But I have a hard enough time doing things for this RPG, so I wouldn't have the time to join.

It depends on when you'd get this up. I still have a lot of loose ends to tie up here, and there's the entire messy business of Dino Hunter's Den to attend to yet, so this summer (in general) probably wouldn't be the best time for me. On the other hand, I do like the premise. The spirit of it is surprisingly similar to the raptor RPGs I used to do on the Jurassic Park boards and I think it's definitely something I could get into. If I have time for it I'll try to join.

I have absolutely no intention of starting this while SoE is still running. After all, I want to see this through to the end as much as everyone else does. All I'm doing right now is seeing who might be interested so I can see if it's worth the trouble of even getting it set up.

It's an interesting idea, but I've found that things with too much calculations really turn players away. I shit you not, people did not join this RPG because there was "too much math." Yeah, imagine that. Even then, I probably won't be able to participate heavily in it; Once this RPG ends, I'm going to be assisting DH with DHD, and then college will start up again. College really saps the roleplaying time from me.

... Bull shit...
Seriously? Its just simple addition and subtraction, how could that have possibly turned people away? I'd be more understanding of the "too much math" complaint if it were, say, "Add these two numbers together, then multiply the result by X, then divide that result by Y, and finally find the square root of that number". But simple addition and subtraction? I might as well shoot any RPG ideas I may ever get dead if that's so.
Anyways, to keep somewhat on topic, I'm amending my previous post. I'll look around and give the RPG in question a chance to impress me before saying yes or no on joining. I really should broaden my horizons on things...

^You, good sir, have never been called upon to assist your everyday high schooler in mathematics. You hand them an algebra book and they cringe like you handed them calculus.
Anyway, as I said when this last came up, I'm all for it, though like many others I have far less time than I used to. One issue - aside from numbers - that might come up is attracting people, as advertising a non-kaiju RPG to a kaiju fandom is some issue. Case in point, look how many people actually showed up for Nexus. Granted, there were other factors involved then, but even so...
Still, once SoE is done, it'd be nice to have some variation to the typical formula.

It sounds fun. But I'll be a bit pressed for time as I am now. I feel bad being able to visit this site as little as I do HyperG, not all of us were like that. I miss algebra actually.

So... we'd be taking the role of humans, yes?

Yes. I might have options for animal companions, but that would be more as an accessory than a PC option.

Dude. Count me in. I need to get back to my roleplaying roots with humans.

Well I just got back from a massive nerd-fest myself where people actually are good at math.
Then I actually heard through the grapevine of what the guys this year had to take for the local highschool exit exam.
Apparently if x = -4, and you know what -x is, then you can graduate into science majors and college and shit and have enough common sense to live in the real world.
