Caitlyn sat on the front of her bed, pointing a remote and channel surfing. Her quarters were nice, and so far everyone here at Imar had been fairly receptive to her. But she still couldn't relax entirely... what was going on back in Tarrun, she wondered? What was going through everyone's mind? Were they worried? Confused? Were they looking for her?
Sighing, she muted the television and fell back on the bed.
"What am I gonna do..." She moaned, running her hands through her hair.
Outside, Theraga gave a low growl, his version of a grumble. Caitlyn reached for her talisman shard and held it firmly in her hand.
I know, Theraga. But I can't help but worry. What if something happens to them while we're away?
Another growl.
Marcus can't watch Allinos forever. He'll have to go home eventually.
Theraga snorted.
Yes, I'm aware of that, thanks! But he can't just ignore his classes. He's got work to do in Ragadin and he'll have to go back sooner or later. And you know Ginkura'll get antsy if he stays in Allinos too long. You remember last time...
Theraga grumbled and laid down his head, silently agreeing.
I just hope they have enough-
Out of the corner of her eye, Caitlyn spotted a familiar scene on the television. Eyes widening, she dropped the talisman on the bed and sat up, hastily un-muting the TV.
"...the death toll continues to rise as violent aftershocks strike the Eastern provinces. Experts believe that the magnitude of the eruptions, as well as the rapid succession in which they took place, may be creating too much geologic stress for the area to handle. Recent surveys show a startling trend of increasingly frequent tremors and sinkholes, as well as a significant upwelling of magma. Local geologists are predicting a full-scale collapse within a week, believing that the entire landmass of Indonesia may tear itself apart and sink into the sea."
"No..." Caitlyn whispered. "I told them all about... I mean... they would've told me if..."
"Despite a valiant effort by GDF task forces, the monster continues to move across the region. Attempts at slowing down Valcanus have been completely ineffecual, resulting in an even greater loss of life and..."
Caitlyn turned off the TV, tossing the remote aside and grabbing the talisman. Theraga was already on his feet.
I can't believe it... he followed us through the portal?! Valcanus?!
Theraga snarled, pacing towards Caitlyn as she left her quarters. Even without a grendelstone it would be obvious that the giant synapsid was not happy.
Why didn't they tell us? Did they think it wasn't important?! Caitlyn thought, her previous anxieties quickly being replaced by new ones. Valcanus isn't going to just go away! Don't they realize what they're dealing with?! This is serious- really, really serious! We've gotta do something!
Meeting up with her, Theraga looked down and growled. Though visibly angry, he seemed reluctant to take action. Caitlyn paused, reading his thoughts...
No... No, we can't just wait here, Theraga! We can't! She replied, stomping her foot. I don't care if he did tell us to stay! We need to go and find Valcanus- now!
Caitlyn turned around swiftly, marching towards the door. Grunting, Theraga took a step forward, planting one of his front paws between her and the exit. Cut off, Caitlyn stepped back and gave an exasperated sigh.
Let me go, Theraga! We have work to do!
Theraga shook his head, refusing to budge.
Come ON! We need to go! Just because Jason said-
Theraga lowered his head, "I really don't give a damn" written all over his face. Caitlyn groaned in frustration and turned around, walking back to her quarters.
Ugh! Fine- have it your way! But it's not like anything's going to happen here!
Sighing, she muted the television and fell back on the bed.
