Name: King Basil
Species: Mutant Cobra
Alignment: Earth Defender
Height: Varies; generally holds head 50 meters in the air
Length: 150 meters
Mass: 20,000 tons
Wingspan: None (no wings)
Intelligence: Cunning
Abilities:
1. Regeneration Rank 3.
2. Thick Hide Rank 2.
3. Resistance to Pain Rank 1
4. Improved Senses Rank 2 (infrared vision and all)
5. Poison Immunity Rank 2
6. Strength Increase Rank 3.
Attacks:
1. Neurotoxin Injection- Rank 3. Injected by fangs in mouth.
2. Hemotoxin Injection- Rank 3. Injected by fangs in mouth.
3. Mesmerize - Rank 1. Creates a hypnotic display on his hood via chameleon-like color changing scales.
Special Ability:
1. Razor Coils – the sides of King Basil’s body are lined with a row of bladed spikes that are like sharp razors. These spikes both help move King Basil and allow him to cut his foe when he lashes them with his whip-like body.
2. Spit Poison - Basil can spit poison at a range of 500 meters. The poison is acidic, melting any flesh or metal it touches. It will blind a kaiju for 4 turns if it hits their eyes (or any visual sensory equivalent).
Weakness:
1. Cold Temperatures– As a snake, King Basil’s body temperature is dependant on his environment. The colder the temperature is, the more sluggish his movement gets. If the temperature is too cold he will eventually go into torpor. Any attack that severely lowers the temperature around King Basil – such as one that encases him in ice or freezes the general are – will slow him down.
2. Sensitive Spine – While King Basil is well armored, his spinal cord is particularly sensitive to blunt attacks. The armor tends to protect it from being cut, but any crushing blow – such as a strong punch – can cause the serpent some serious pain, and enough blows to it may paralyze him.
Finisher:
1. The Big Squeeze – King Basil wraps his body around his foe, crushes them into a pulp, and swallows the bleeding mass whole.
Personality: King Basil is a likable rogue. While the serpent generally only cares for his own well being, knowing he can survive most of the horrors the world can throw at him, he can be coaxed into fighting for others by acts of courage. Think a mix of Han Solo and Godzilla in Ghidorah the 3 Headed Monster – he’s not a bad guy, he just doesn’t feel he owes anyone or anything any favors. He is generally amiable and relishes good combat. The snake is confident though not cocky and, unlike most snakes, tends to be more of a chaotic brawler than a scheming ambush predator. This trigger happy nature occasionally gets him into trouble, but he almost always manages to find some way out of it – like Indianna Jones. In fact, he’s pretty much a serpentine Harrison Ford.

Origin: There was little knowledge of King Basil before 2020. All that was known of him was one cryptic and vague account from a 15th century European explorer’s trip to India. While searching the jungle he happened upon a subterranean cavern containing some lost temple that had long ago fallen in the wake of a great earthquake. The interior of this ruin contained gold, gems, and other valuables, along with a monstrous sleeping serpent. At first the explorer didn’t notice it, as it had buried itself beneath the gems. Only when the great snakes tongue flickered out of its mouth did the explorer notice its great eye was staring right at him amidst the treasure. Not knowing that snakes slept with their eyes open, the man quickly departed the room and related his experience to his fellow explorers. They derided him as “having too much drink in him” and moved on with the expedition, mockingly telling the explorer to forget “King Basil and his cursed treasure.”
Most historians viewed this as a largely exaggerated description of a normal king cobra or the hysterical ramblings of a drunk. One adventurer, however, took stock in the tale, although it was only the treasure in the room that intrigued him. He organized a doomed expedition to India and found the treasure… while also awakening its guardian. King Basil had been let loose upon the world.
Age – and perhaps a lack of followers, as the snake-themed treasure of the room seemed to suggest that he may have been worshiped as some sort of deity – had weakened the great serpent, forcing him to hunt so he could regain his former strength. His venom was weak when he first went up against the GDF, and while he gave them quite a struggle they eventually managed to subdue him and place him on Monster Island. For now he seems content to stay there, occasionally trying to hunt the other monsters in an attempt to regain his former glory…
